History of the NCBAA Alumni Association

The NCBAA Leadership Development Institute for African American Midlevel Administrators in Community Colleges hosted a class of seventeen in Baltimore, Maryland during the week of October 13 – 17, 2008.
The Scholars of 2008 consisted of leaders from across the United States, including representatives from as far as California, Louisiana, and Florida. Once assembled and the discussion commenced, an immediate bond was formed.
The dialogue that persisted throughout the week was stimulating, thought-provoking, and motivating.
The fusion of intellectual power and influence was the catalyst for the Alumni Association, the class project. The Alumni Association allows the Scholars the opportunity to keep the vitality and vigor alive. Not only did it generate a means to keep the participants connected, but to invite other Scholars to join the conversation.
While learning more about the cultural challenges in higher education, the Scholars became lifelong companions and created a connection that can never be severed.
The first class reunion took place in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the weekend of March 14, 2009. A second reunion is scheduled to convene in Oakland, California in 2010.

Welcome from Sponsor
I also want to recognize the distinguished faculty of the institute and the NCBAA Board for their support of the Scholars throughout the years. As a result of their commitment to scholars, I know that they will also want to “stay connected” through the Scholars Alumni Association. I am encouraging all NCBAA Scholars and others affiliated with the National Council on Black American Affairs to utilize this wonderful networking opportunity by completing the members profile and signing- in to the conversation. Thank you 2008 Scholars for leading the way! Marian C. Shivers, Dean |
